Armor Gold Cables original founder, Joe Naylor, (Reverend Guitars, Railhammer Pickups and Naylor Amps) — a man often called the Einstein of guitar design — began Armor Gold Cables in 2005 to create the purest, lowest-noise, with the most balanced signal path possible.
Naylor was tired of sifting through his box of cables, some broken and each one sounding different, causing inconsistency. He wanted a cable that checked all the boxes: durable, visible, affordable, and with great sound. So, he created it! After testing several different capacitance rates, he discovered if it’s too low, the tone is too bright. If it’s too high, the tone is dull. He finally settled on 33pf per foot, a medium-low capacitance which is clear but not too bright.
He created cables that are virtually indestructible. After visiting a company that had been making Y cables for his amps, he stumbled across the aircraft quality mesh layer they are now notorious for, and knew then and there that they should use the same material to make their cables. His process also enhances the durability. After soldering, resin is injected between the hot and ground connections preventing them from contacting each other and shorting out. His cables also use 95% spiral copper shield, a conductive pvc layer, and polyethylene insulation, all of which reduce handling noise and protects against outside interference.
